Privacy Policy
Your information, handled with care.
You share a great deal with Ascend — your goals, your city, your budget and your photos. This policy explains plainly what we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, and the control you keep over it.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how Future Self Labs ("Future Self Labs", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the Ascend mobile application, the website at which you obtained it, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us. The Service is built around a conversation, and most of what we hold is what you choose to tell us:
- Account details — your name, email address, password and, if you make a purchase, billing details handled by our payment processor (we do not store full card numbers).
- Your goals — what you want to achieve and the timeframe you have in mind.
- Location — the city or area you tell us you live in, so recommendations can point to places near you. We do not track your precise location in the background.
- Budget — the amount you are comfortable investing, so recommendations fit it.
- Photos — images of yourself that you choose to upload so recommendations can be tailored to you. See Photos below.
- Conversation content — the messages you exchange with the Ascend advisor, including any details you volunteer about your appearance, habits, health, relationships or work.
- Feedback — check-ins, ratings and messages you send to us.
Information collected automatically. When you use the Service we collect device and usage information such as device model, operating system version, app version, IP address, approximate region derived from IP address, crash reports, and how you interact with features. We use this to run, secure and improve the Service.
Information from others. If you make a purchase, our payment processor confirms the status of your payment to us. We do not purchase information about you from data brokers.
3. Photos and sensitive information
Photos are optional, and the choice to share them is always yours. When you do, they are used for one purpose: producing recommendations that fit the person in the picture rather than a generic average — advice on hair, grooming, fit, posture and similar matters.
- We do not use your photos to identify you, to build a facial-recognition profile, or to match you against other people or databases.
- We do not sell your photos, license them to third parties, or use them in advertising.
- Photos may be processed by the artificial-intelligence providers described in Section 5 in order to generate your recommendations.
- You can delete any photo at any time from within the app, and deleting your account deletes your photos.
Information you share in conversation may also include things the law treats as sensitive, such as details about your health or fitness. We use such information only to provide the Service to you and, where required by the law that applies to you, only with your consent. Please share only what you are comfortable with.
4. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide the Service, including generating personalized recommendations and plans;
- remember your goals, preferences and progress between sessions;
- suggest local businesses and products that fit your plan and budget;
- process payments and keep track of your purchases and credits;
- send service messages about your account, security and changes to the Service;
- send product news and offers, which you can opt out of at any time;
- understand how the Service is used so we can improve it;
- detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse, security incidents and technical problems; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We may use information that has been de-identified or aggregated, so that it no longer reasonably identifies you, to improve our recommendation quality and for analytics. We will not attempt to re-identify such information.
5. Artificial intelligence and automated processing
Ascend is an AI product. Your conversations and photos are processed by machine-learning models, some of which are operated by third-party providers under contracts that restrict them to processing your information on our behalf and prohibit them from using it to train their models without your consent.
Recommendations are generated automatically and are intended as guidance for personal presentation and habits. They are not medical, psychological, nutritional, financial or legal advice, and no decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you is made solely by automated means. You can always ask us to explain a recommendation or to have a person review a concern.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers — companies that host our infrastructure, process payments, deliver email, provide analytics or crash reporting, and operate the AI models that power the Service. Each is permitted to use your information only to provide services to us.
- Legal reasons — when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena or legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Future Self Labs, our users or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information until you are told otherwise.
- With your direction — when you ask us to share something, for instance by exporting your plan.
Local businesses recommended to you (barbers, tailors, gyms and the like) do not receive your information from us. Any relationship you form with them is between you and them.
7. How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal information, including photos and conversations, within 30 days, except where we must keep certain records to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. Backup copies are overwritten in the ordinary course within 90 days.
8. Security
We protect your information with technical and organizational measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and logging. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and any relevant authorities as the law requires.
9. Your choices and rights
You are in control of what you share and you can, at any time:
- Access and export a copy of the information we hold about you;
- Correct information that is inaccurate;
- Delete individual photos or conversations, or your entire account;
- Opt out of marketing email using the link in any message we send;
- Withdraw consent for processing that relies on it, without affecting processing that came before.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, other U.S. state privacy laws, or the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to know what categories of information we collect, to limit the use of sensitive information, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any right, use the controls in the app or write to info@futureselflabs.ai. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time the applicable law requires.
10. Age requirement
The Service is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with information, please contact us.
11. International users
Future Self Labs is based in the United States and your information is processed and stored there and in other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have data-protection laws that differ from those where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for such transfers.
12. Third-party links and services
The Service may recommend or link to businesses, products and websites that we do not operate. This policy does not apply to them, and we encourage you to review their privacy practices before sharing information with them.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service and the law evolve. When we make material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and we will always post the current version here with the date it was last updated. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
